8th February Nazca – Lima 279 miles

Well we gased up and got water and set off on the Pan American highway, which nicely dissects the Nasca lines as the original road was build before the lines were discovered. There is a tower on the side of the road that people were climbing up to get a view.
As we leave the temperature is at 33degrees but that soon climbs to 35.5 but we are not too uncomfortable as whilst under way we have a reasonable amount of air rushing through our suits.
The Pa n Am starts for us as a good two lane road and as our journey progresses towards Lima it turns to dual carriageway, indeed a lot of the road we have travelled has road works building a second carriageway.
After about 100 miles Martin stopped for a break and boy was I glad, we started our Malaria tabs last night and I have had stomach cramps for the last 10 or 15 miles, a loo is what I need. When I surfaced Martin is at the top of these steps and he has found a swimming pool, has his boots and socks off and is standing on the steps in cooling himself. A drink and ice cream seemed the order of the day and we were on our way again.
The trip is reasonably uneventful until we get to the outskirts of Lima and needless to say the traffic builds. It is now 5.30 and sunset is about 6.45, plenty of time, or so we thought, we finally find accommodation at about 8 o’clock, wow what a marathon.
