7th February Nasca

Before anyone corrects me there are 2 spellings of Nasca, one with an ‘s’ and one with a ‘z’, it would seem that both are correct as having been around the town we have seen both several times.
Nasca is named after the Nasca people and is famous for some lines and sybols made on the desert, the only way of seeing them is from the air so we are off to find a flight.
The flight is in a Cessna light aircraft and the plane takes 6 or 7. There is a larger plane but then some passengers would get an aisle seat, no good for this trip.
We take off on a 40 minute flight and the pilot does a banked circle around each symbol in both directions so it is not the smoothest journey, but the lines and symbols are incredible. I took lots of pictures and I just hope I can make them out.
I had a chat with the pilot afterwqtds to try yo get an understanding of what the lines were and he was very helful but the info was a little sketchy.
Martin has found info on a planetarium in the town this evening so we can get more info there. The planetarium is at a hotel in the town where a German lady, Maria Reiche stayed at the hotel for 25 years whilst studying and ensuring the preservation of the lines.
It is fascinating and I won’t give you all a history lesson, but these lines have been there since before Christ, over 2000 years and were not discovered until the 30’s when commercial flights flew over them. I suggest College 2, my son’s class, look them up.
There are lots of theories and indeed they are still being studied today, but the underlying themes are to do with Water and Astronomy. Really pleased we came here and saw this.
Heading North tomorrow up the Pan American Highway.
