29th January Lake Titicaca trip

Up at crack of thing and we have to pack up and put our things into a store they have at the hotel and get some breakfast before the coach arrives.
Ronaldo turns up and he is our guide for the next 2 days, what we didn’t realise at first was that he was guiding just the 2 of us, fantastic.
Coach arrives and we are off, on the coach are a variety of different people and Nationalities. After a few hours we have to leave the coach and take to one of the flotilla of small boats that are ferrying people across what we learn is the narrowest part of the lake, about 500 – 750 metres. The coach is also crossing on a barge with an outboard motor, they always remove the passengers because it is not unheard of for one to sink. As recently as last week when it was dusking 2 collided, as they have no lights, and one sank with a coach and a car on board, OMG.
Having crossed we get back onto the coach and are taken to Copacabana, here we go to a restaurant to have lunch. Sitting outside seemed like a good idea but then a few spits of rain, no problem but Ronaldo soon ushers us inside and the rain absolutely pounds the roof and creates a few leaks. Lunch finished and the rain subsided we venture outside to see rivers running down each side of the road.
We now go and get on another boat which will take us to Sun Island, this takes a couple of hours and when we finally dock we climb up lots of steps, said to be a thousand to the temple of the sun. As we get to the top of the first flight there 3 pipes where water from a spring is delivered, this has been flowing since aroud 1250 AD. One of the pipes is now dry but the other 2 flow freely, it is said that this is therapeutic and thoise who drink it will stay younger and be cured of ailments. I tried it but my leg is not cured just yet.
Onward and upwards and we come to the Temple of the Sun, this again was built by the Incas around the 12th century, it was 2 stories but unfortunately only one floor remains, still not bad for 900 years. This was used by Kings for special events and the Royal party would stay in the Temple.
One incredible fact about the building is that all the walls angle inwards to counter earthquakes, that is back in the 12th century.
We now board the boat again and are taken along the coast a bit and then we walk to the village by climbing to the ridge of the island and then follow it and have some fantastic views across the lake. It is quite a strenuous walk, especially at altitude, but it is well worth it.
Our hotel overlooks the lake and we hope to get a beautiful sunset but unfortunately there is too much cloud.
