4th and 5th March Santa Marta

We have spent these 2 days chilling out and catching up with the blog and a couple of other odds and ends. Where we are staying is a little village called Taganga which is next to Santa Marta and a sort of suburb.
Years ago, about 6, it was a little fishing village with 1 dive centre and was visited at weekends by locals and passengers from cruise ships which had docked at Santa Marta. Today it relys heavily on the tourist trade and there are Hostals on every street corner and 15 or more dive centres. Fishing stills goes on and when you eat fish in a restaurant it is usually fresh that day.
We are going to the carnival in Baranquilla tomorrow and the party atmosphere is here and today, Saturday, they are having a mini parade along the sea front. A lot of effort has gone into preparing all the costumes and it is a shame that they only do one pass but that was it. We will see what a big one is like tomorrow.
