28th February Caucasia – Cartegana 233 miles

Up and away quite early this morning the road is quite a bit quicker, in fact we travelled further in the first 25 minutes than we did in 2.5 hours yesterday, not that that would be difficult. We were told this section of the journey was boring but the road has some interesting bends and is fun to ride.
The weather is fine and the temterature 36 degrees but at one point we run through a short section of rain which was amasing because we had blue sky and a couple of fluffy clouds. A bit later the sky and clouds get much darker and it starts to rain, should we stop? In Columbia when the rain starts it usually builds very quickly into a massive downpour but usually only lasts for an hour. After rounding a corner Martin spotted a small shelter which was big enough to house both bikes. We soon found out why it was there as a farmer stopped for shelter and then more until we had 11 farmers and us under this shelter, after about 40 minutes 9 left on a bus, so it’s a bus shelter!! The rain stopped soon after so we decided to carry on without waterproofs and as we leave another bus arrived to collect the remaining two chaps.
The road dried quite quickly and was dry the rest of the way to Cartegana but as we reach the outskirts of the city the traffic is the usual bunfight.
We are going to stay in the historic city and as we arrive we can see lots of tower blocks off to our left, that’s not it then, but we continue towards the sea and there is the walled city as seen in Romancing the Stone. After a few laps we find the road we need and get booked into a hotel and then find secure parking for the bikes.
We have now seen all the seas and oceans surrounding South America, Starting with the Atlantic we crossed to the Pacific and we are now by the Caribbean Sea and may well do a bit of diving.
