We are now on plan B as we have run out of time and therefore will not be going to Central America. We were on track until we got to Bolivia and then various things led to time ebbing away from us. We will now stay and discover Colombia until we are due to fly home as we have found it picturesque and the people are fantastic.
Plan A
Martin and David's first major trip "Back2thebike Americas Adventure" starts on the 7th December 2010.We fly to Buenos Aires, retrieve our bikes and head South for a Horizons Unlimited meeting in Viedma and then on to spend Christmas in Ushuaia, bottom of the world. From here we will see where the road takes us but the loose plan is to head North along the West side of Argentina and Chile following the famous biking roads Ruta 40 and Carretera Austral, we hope to see various sites on the way including at least one glacier. Then sample a bit of wine in Mendoza and catch up with the Dakar Rally at Copiapo or Antofagasta. We move on to Bolivia and the salt flats Salar de Uyuni and then climbing to the dizzy heights of 5000 metres above sea level and the mine of Potosi and the Worlds highest city La Paz. We then exit Bolivia, having travelled the worlds most dangerous road, at Lake Titicaca and enter Peru.We will then go to Machu Pichu, the famous lost city.Through Equador, Colombia and to the port of Cartegena. We hope to get a sailing boat from here with the bikes on board and take the slow route to Panama with a bit of cruising through the San Blas Islands thrown in. Once into Central America we move from Panama to Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, Guatelmala, El Salvador, possibly Belize and on into Mexico to the Mayan ruins. Onwards and upwards into North America to LA and Grand Canyon. Then onto Las Vegas and ride up the strip on our bikes. Will they let us in the Ballagio in motorcycle gear? Then Route 66 to Chicago, Buffalo and Niagra Falls and finally Boston and New York.If we make it that far, it should be about 17200 miles.Get the bikes on a boat, have a look round NYC and home in time to watch the Australian Grand Prix.
Very cool!! It was so great meeting you! I'll keep following! I hope you can come and visit!
